Double Page Spread Interview FINAL

Bassline: Exclusive Interview with Melita

The worldwide Phenomenon

One of music’s highest paid girls gives us an insight into what life is like in the fast lane and the ironic thing is ...she can’t even sing a note!

Tuesday morning, 10am and our interviewer Lisa prepares

to meet Melita, the self professed “It Girl” of Tinseltown right

now. As she walks in we are expecting a stick-thin, plastic and

heavily made-up diva to walk in, but were utterly surprised

when the total opposite arrives at the studio.  Wearing a comfy

hoodie, plain jeans and flip flops with minimal make-up, we

were all astonished when Melita walked in. Greeting staff on

arrival with hugs and kisses she is a far cry from her video

persona. After greeting Lisa and raving about how much she

loves London, Melita finally sits down and the interview

commences..

L: Hello Melita! It’s great to finally meet you.

M: Hi, It’s great to meet you too. I‘m so excited to be here and

to be in London. The last time I was here was for a video

with Snoop[Dogg] and I absolutely loved it.

L: Yes. Snopp Dogg, Jay Z, Britney,

Christina, Pharell, Lil’ Wayne. The amount

of high profile music videos that you have

featured in is endless.

M:(Laughs) Well, I have had the privilege of working

with  many artists. I have been very lucky in my career

so far. At first I was really in awe when I got one big

job but now It’s become a regular thing.

L: We also hear that you are set to be in the “King of Pop” himself, Michael

Jackson’s next video! Is this true?

M:(Laughs) I haven’t even heard that rumour yet! (Laughs) But as far as I

know, nothing has been confirmed. It would be such a great honour though

to work with him, c’mon I mean he is the king of pop. He’s one of my

favourite artists of all time. If not the best.

L: It’s true you are very popular amongst the male musicians of the industry,

and have been handpicked for many of their videos. So has anything ever

happened romantically between yourself and any of them?

M: No. Never. When I am on set for a video it is strictly business and nothing

more. I’m constantly hearing rumours about me hooking up with the artists

I work with, but it’s not true at all. It’s like a guy and a girl cant hang out

together without it being something more than just that, hanging out.

L: But don’t you ever feel tempted? You must

admit some of these guys are very hot.

M: Well yes I must admit that some of them

are pretty hot (giggles), but when I’m on a job

its strictly business. You cant really afford to

have any kind of romance, it would just mess

everything up. Also, most of these rappers

and artists that I work with have wives or

long- term girlfriends. I’m no man thief! (Laughs)

L: That leads us to my next question. It is very

apparent that you have made a good living out

of this. So we must ask, how much have you

actually earned over the course of your

wholesome career so far?

M: Ooh, you cant ask me that (Laughs).

L: Not even an estimate?

M: Well, to be honest I don’t really know. I have

never actually counted it all. I’d have to speak to

my accountant. I’m sure its a good amount

though, for the amount of time and effort I’v put

into my job! (Laughs)

L: Ok, ok, we will let that one slide. Now tell us

about some of the advantages of being a top

MVG (Music Video Girl)?

M: Well there are a lot of privileges I must admit.

You get to travel the world, meet great new people,

make good money and even though it can be

hard work. It is fun.

L: Wow, your life sounds fantastic!

M:(Smiles) Well at the moment I really cannot

complain. Life is really good now and I’m living the

way I’ve always dreamt of. Right now I’m at the

stage where I just want to give back. That’s why

I’ve been working with many charities such as

Oxfam and The Cancer Trust.

L: We hear that you are looking to expand your

global domination even further.

M: Yes. Erm, I have quite a bit of business ventures

going on at the moment. I’m in the process of writing

a book, which I am very excited about. I also have a

line of lingerie coming out named “Sweet Candy”

and I will be starring in my own reality show for

E! Entertainment.

L: Wow, your one busy woman! Would you ever consider

actually becoming an artist yourself? Releasing a single

maybe?

M: Oh wow. Ironically I’ve never even thought about

that, even considering how I am so involved in the

industry. Wow (looks a bit puzzled) that’s a good

question (both laugh).

L: Have you got any other talents that

we do not know of?

M: Hmmm..well I can  touch my toes

on the back of my head. If you’d call

that a talent!

L: Wow, that sounds interesting.

M:(Laughs) Trust me, It’s really not.

It’s actually kinda weird.

L: You have also been romantically

linked to basketball player Sirone

Fisher. Care to comment?

M: He’s one of the 50 guys I’m

supposedly dating! All I have to say

is that yes, I have met him and yes

we are friends. I don’t really like to

comment on my personal life. It’s

really better to keep stuff private,

especially when your in the public

eye all the  time. I had to

learn that the hard way.

L: OK, fair enough. So how did you actually get

into the MVG scene to begin with?

M: Well its quite a boring story actually. I was

out grocery shopping in ‘Walmart’ to be precise;

and a model scout approached me and asked

if I would to come audition for him. I was a bit

hesitant at first because you know you hear

all these stories about all these creeps telling

girls ‘oh you could be a model’, and then like

bringing them back to their place and you

know being forceful and stuff. But I looked into

it and everything seemed rather legit and very

professional, so I went for it and that’s how I

got into the industry.

L: So finally, what advice would you give

to young women looking to break into the

industry?

M: Well firstly I would say that you need to

know a good amount about the industry and

how it works. That’s really important.

Next I would say, just keep focused and

work hard that’s all you can do really.

Have drive and a strong work ethic.

L: Well thank you for the interview

it’s been a pleasure meeting you.

M: Likewise, thank you for

having me. Its been really fun.

Melita is currently in the

process of releasing a

book entitled

“Life behind the music”

which will hit the shelves on the

24th May 2008.
